What you’re seeing: a camera preview versus a RAW developed with camera white balance. Preview resolution and processing differ. This is a rendering comparison, not a controlled test of highlight recovery or format superiority. See the exact method →

A measured sample, not a camera average.

The original archive record identifies this sample as 14-bit lossless compressed NEF. A different bit depth or compression mode needs its own file-size measurement. Do not assume every D750 RAW photograph occupies the same space.

Plan a year of photographs.

RAW uses this sample’s exact byte count. JPEG assumes 8 MB per photograph for planning; replace that estimate in the calculator with your own file size. All values below are decimal GB, before backup copies.

Questions about this sample

Which NEF setting does this sample represent?

The archive identifies it as 14-bit lossless compressed RAW. Its exact byte count is recorded in the source manifest.

Should I use this estimate for 12-bit NEF files?

Use your own 12-bit file measurement instead. This page is based on one 14-bit sample; it does not measure the storage difference between bit-depth settings.

Why is a border removed from the Nikon RAW export?

The preprocessing recipe removes an 8-pixel border from each side of the decoded sensor image to match the camera preview framing. No scene content is added or generated.
